Sports Utility Vehicle are selling like hotcakes in the Philippines market. With premium car makers entering into this wide, opportunity struck segment, a number of choices are now at disposal for the fellow Filipinos. Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) is the country's largest automotive manufacturer in operation and in order to boost its already competitive line-up, it soon plans to bring the awaited Montero Sport 2016.
Montero sport stands at the vertex of Mitsubishi line-up and is ruling the Philippines land since the 80's. We at CarBay, have gone ahead digging about the details of this much awaited SUV.
The new-generation Montero Sport will be offered in a single power option that replicates its pickup Triton. Though a cut-down from the previous five engine pack, the new 2.4-liter MIVEC*2 turbo diesel won't let you feel nostalgic for a second. As it is capable enough to offer a maximum power of 181 horsepower @ 3,500 rpm and 430 Nm @ 2,500 rpm of peak torque. The all-aluminum power terrain is named as 4N15 and is commissioned to be a 'clean diesel' capable of at least Euro 4 emission level. Moving on, the engine strength is further enhanced by 8-speed automatic transmission with three built-in modes that go as the sport mode, INC and G-Sensor. All these features contribute towards making this car reliable, durable and performance ridden car.
Integrated with four wheel system, the car comes with a new Super-Select 4WD-II system that uses electronic controls and hill descent control, giving the car better performance and stability. It comes with a promise to ride you at ease from bad roads and flood conditions.
'Stylish and Comfortable Off-road SUV' rightly explains the entire design language followed by its makers. Its exterior front is loaded with some great features like dynamic shield grille, vertical tail lights, chrome trim headlights and restyled bumper. Montero Sport 2016 stands strong on its 265/60R18 tires housed perfectly in the two-toned wheel arches. The side features a bold and long running belt line, and a kink leading to a rear small but useful window. The new satin chrome surrounds give the car an interesting variation from the previous models.
It took Mitsubishi seven long years to come up with a full re-designed model, and with is worth as the car is studded with some great features on the inside too. It now Sport a modified four-spoke steering wheel, redesigned instrument binnacle, touchscreen AV system, eco-drive assist, sound insulation and a climate control system. Further, the black piano inserts and shiny silver work adds to its aesthetic beauty and dynamic feel. Knee space is now not a problem, as Montero Sport now comes with electric parking system that gives ample sitting room.
Safety is not an issue, Montero Sport 2016 is stuffed with a total seven airbags inside its reinforced impact safety evolution body. Apart from the standard ABS coupled with EBD, the car comes fitted with forward collision mitigation, blind spot warning and ultrasonic mis-acceleration mitigation system. But what impressed us the most is its birds-eye system, capable of giving a 360-degree car view. Also, lane changing has become much safer with its blind-spot warning system.
For now Mitsubishi Montero Sport sales is confined to Thailand alone and is expected to join the Philippine SUV fleet, not before 2016. As for production, automakers Laem Chabang Plant in Thailand will be the set location that is destined to serve the demand of over 90 countries. CarBay is aware that buying a mean machine is a tough call, and even an expert can go weak in the knee in finding his perfect car.
